Welcome to the Wolf Valley. Here you can find a warriors-like roleplaying environment, except with wolves. Here are the territories:
The wolf valley is surrounded by a circular mountain range, guarding the wolves from humans. That doesn't mean they aren't free of danger, though. The four packs are not friendly. They each have a separate territory, with a no-wolf's-land meeting place in the place where every territory corner meets. Whenever one wolf breaks the Code of Howling, the wolves' supreme code of honour, a battle could break out. For example, if one pack was found hunting on another's territory, they would probably meet in battle.
Pack Territories:
Pack Waterfall(commonly called Waterfall):
This territory is next to the river Thorn and its awesome waterfall. The Thorn cuts a meandering path through the forests and plains of the valley until it comes to rest in an impossibly flat space as a wide lake. Each night, if a wolf were to travel to the lake, they would see a perfect mirror image of the stars and moon in the water. Because of this, wolf leaders travel here to become leader, believing that it is the place where the Great Wolf Spirits speak to them and give them the power of leadership.
Waterfall's territory controls a large part of the river, ending at the lake and proceeding until it meets the Wolf Moon gathering place in the center of the valley, the border line between Pack Waterfall and Pack Illusion running due north.
Waterfall Territory Landmarks:
-Lightning Tree: This tree was split in half a long time ago, marking the northernmost point on the border line between Waterfall and Illusion.
-Waterfall Camp: The camp of Pack Waterfall lies next to the Thorn, far enough away from the waterfall for cubs to frisk and play in the mild current. The banks by the cub nursery are coated with moss and in sunny places, providing tired mothers a place to rest their paws. Directly next to the mossy bank is the nursery, a bramble thicket cleverly disguised by ferns and dead leaves. The walls are strong and secure to hold in cubs until the age of 6 moons(months), when they can become apprentices, much to the relief of their mothers. The camp(located near the center of Waterfall territory, as all camps are), is wide and rectangular, surrounded by tall rocks and ferns, shielding it from view. There are two entrances: one leading from the nursery to the river Thorn, and one leading out of camp to the south.
The dens are caves that ancient rivers hollowed out, creating spacious living areas for the pack. Except for the nursery, everything else is rock. The apprentices den is on one side of the nursery, with the warriors den on the other. The leader has a den all to himself in the middle of camp. It is a cluster of rocks that create a small lean-to cave about five feet off the ground, with a series of small, rocky steps leading up to it. This cluster of rocks is the Howlstone. Every time the leader wishes to call a pack meeting, he jumps up onto the Howlstone and, as its name suggests, howls to gather the pack.
The elder wolves have the most comfortable and warm den, secure from rain, out of the wind, lined with a thick carpet of shed fur and dead leaves. The entrance is covered by thick, hanging ferns that insulate the inside.
The medicine wolf has an interesting den. Its entrance is a narrow squeeze through the rock, opening up into a giant cavern with pocks and crevices in which to store herbs. Here is where the medicine wolf and his apprentice make their home.
Pack Illusion:
Pack Illusion is a pack that makes its home in the mist-shrouded moors to the east of Waterfall. The boundary line between it and Waterfall is the river Thorn as it travels due north. From there it spreads to the base of the mountains, wrapping around until it meets the forest of Pack Lightning. The forest boundary then meanders along until it comes to the Wolf Moon gathering place in the center of the valley.
Pack Illusion Landmarks:
-The River Thorn: This river marks the boundary line between Waterfall and Illusion.
-Sandpit: This is where young apprentices come to train their battle skills.
-Pack Illusion Camp: The camp is the only sheltered area on the open moorland. It is a giant, collapsed underground cave that was covered with boulders and grass. The ways out are a steep, sloping ramp that heads to the north, while another, gentler slope climbs slowly out to the southwest. The nursery is a giant protected cave, as is the elder's den across the camp. The apprentice and warriors' dens are much the same as in Waterfall, guarding either side of the nursery. The leader has a den underneath a jutting rock. The top is flat, making it an ideal Howlstone. Unlike in the camp of Waterfall, it is right next to the gentler entrance to the camp.
The medicine wolf has a nest in a grove of towering oak trees, the only trees on the moor. The giant, broad leaves allow minimal rain to seep in, and the roots allow room for herb storage.
The elders have a home inside a curious rock. An ancient tributary of the Thorn once flowed against it, carving a wide channel straight through it. After it was lined with grass and shed fur, it became quite a nice, comfortable den for the elders.
Pack Lightning:
This pack owns the forest of the valley. The territory travels to the west until it meets the gorge, a giant crevasse in the earth that marks the border between Packs Lightning and Shadow.
It has no landmarks to speak of, just the camp and the surrounding forest. The gorge runs until it reaches the Wolf Moon gathering place, and there it stops.
Pack Lightning Camp:
It is a sheltered clearing in the forest, its layout exactly the same as Pack Waterfall's, right down to the elder den, Howlstone, and medicine wolf den. Waterfall isn't entirely happy with this, as the other packs have their own special features, but since they are completely across the valley from each other, they don't battle much.
Pack Shadow:
Pack Shadow is one of the strangest packs. There are many wolves with black coats, and the entire territory is bare, hard rock and stunted trees as far as the eye can see. The prey mostly comes from the gorge, which Shadow has claimed as their own since the rest of the land offers poor hunting. The gorge is a heavily forested ravine which all manner of prey fall into. However, Shadow never EVER eats these things, calling them rotfood. Instead they hunt the mice and small mammals of the gorge.
Pack Shadow Landmarks:
-Tallrock: This, as its name suggests, is a very tall rock. You can see it from almost anywhere in Shadow's territory, except near the mountains and in the gorge. This rock is also Shadow's marshaling rock for when the leader gathers his warriors for battle.
-Pack Shadow Camp: The camp is one giant cave in a big rock formation. It is inside a giant, hollowed-out pillar of rock, with dens stair-stepping to the top in order of rank until it reaches the leader's den, at the very top of the pillar. The nursery and elder's dens are on the bottom floor, well away from each other, as elders don't like to be disturbed by cubs practicing their incessant howling. In the center of the pillar is a giant, tall, obsidian rock. How it got there is quite a mystery. This is Shadow's Howlstone.
The next rank up, apprentice, has a den just above the nursery, with a small path leading down to the ground floor. Across the pillar and up one is the warrior's den, a little bigger, and two floors above the elder's den, with a series of small boulders stepping down to the entrance, a narrow crack in the rock pillar. On the same level as the warrior's den is the medicine wolf den. It is a cool cave with a small pool of water in the center which catches any rain that might leak through the roof. There are various cracks and shelves of rock to store herbs and poultices, and plenty of cobwebs, as spiders are welcome there.
At he very tip-top of the rock pillar lies the leader's den, a formidable cave with lichen hanging over the lip. A narrow rock path runs down to the warrior level, and from there the leader takes the warrior path down to the ground floor and leaps upon the obsidian Howlstone to call the pack for a meeting.
This is the guide to the Wolves of the Valley. I hope this has instructed you on the wherabouts of the four packs. The next tutorial you should read is the Wolf Code. It includes an herb glossary, wolf code of honour, and rankings of the wolves.
